Classes
Fall Herbal Gathering and Medicine Making Course
September 19th to 22nd
We focus on techniques for propagating wild native medicinal herbs. These techniques give
you the
knowledge to help reestablish healthy populations of these beautiful, healing herbs.
As in all of our classes we pay strict attention to proper identification of plants.
Classes
Classes are from 10am to 4pm on each of the 4 days.
What to bring to class: You should bring a notebook, a plant guide book for this area,
large lunches. Long sleeved shirts and long pants are the best for wild crafting,
but you can certainly wear shorts and teeshirts for the lectures and medicine making
labs. You should have available gumboots and full raingear.
Cost
The price for the class is $450.00. This includes all medicines made and our
field trip transportation costs.
Accommodation
Denman Island is very accessible from Courtenay, Campbell River,Qualicum, Parksville,
Nanaimo and Hornby Island. So people from these places may want to commute every day.
There are several accommodation options available to you. You can stay at the Denman
Guest House. Here in this hostel like atmosphere you can meet travellers from around
the world. Full kitchen facilities available. It is close to all amenities, bakery,
2 stores, community hall and ferry. The cost is $20.00 per night. We have a
beautiful provincial campground, right on the beach, that may be Denman’s best kept
secret. Here you can set up a tent or camp in your van or RV.
About Sheelagh
Sheelagh grew up in Mill Bay and spent her childhood in the forests collecting leaves and
berries and searching for lady slippers. Later she studied to receive a B.A. in Anthropology
and Environmental Studies from the University of Victoria, hiking the West Coast forests
often when she was supposed to be in the library. She completed a documentary film course
for anthropologists in Santa Fe New Mexico. After the birth of her first child she studied
therapeutic herbalism and started West Coast Herbs, a herbal medicine making company.
Lately it has occurred to Sheelagh that she does now that which she used to do as a child
an this brings her much joy, as it always has. She has been known to break out into folkloric
dance and song at unscheduled intervals.
Herbally Yours, Sheelagh Mackenzie.
